Background
Members of Weatherhead Women in Business partnered with Saint Joseph Academy in March to mentor and inspire young women during the school’s Women’s Leadership Symposium. The event brought together nearly 100 high school students for discussions on leadership, confidence and future career opportunities.
Symposiums were geared towards equipping learners with skills that could be used in life post-high school, and also in academics and the profession. In one of the special sessions meant for the seniors in high school, there was a discussion on gaining self-confidence, academic achievements, and how to make the transition into college life.
The discussion involved experiences shared by the leaders regarding leadership and professional experiences. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions about college life, career planning and challenges they may face as they pursue higher education.
According to organizers, the event supported the group’s broader mission of encouraging women to take on leadership roles and create meaningful connections within the community. The interaction allowed students to learn directly from women currently pursuing advanced education and careers in business-related fields.
Under this program, custom-made stickers that contained logos of the Weatherhead School of Management and the university were used as a token of participation. Souvenirs made the participants remember the occasion and allowed them to feel closer to the university.
Moreover, participating in such an event was beneficial for the mentors. Having shared their experiences and mentored young students, they managed to develop leadership and communication skills.
The collaboration reflected an ongoing effort to support young women as they prepare for college and future careers. Organizers said programs such as the Women’s Leadership Symposium help students build confidence, expand their networks and pursue their ambitions with greater clarity and determination.
