Background-
Entrepreneurs, development partners, and supporters gathered in Uzbekistan for HAMROH FEST, a two-day event built around product exhibitions, networking, mentorship sessions and a grant award ceremony to boost women-owned businesses.
HAMROH ran the festival together with the United Nations Development Programme and The Coca-Cola Company, drawing 40 women entrepreneurs who displayed goods ranging from fashion and handmade crafts to beauty products and home décor. The gathering let participants meet customers, swap business ideas, forge professional ties, and scout new commercial partnerships.
A grant ceremony formed one of the event’s biggest draws, with organisers picking 20 women entrepreneurs out of more than 250 applicants for asset-based grants worth up to $5,000 apiece.
The Coca-Cola Foundation funded the grants through the Women’s Entrepreneurship Support Programme, handing recipients equipment and machinery matched to their businesses to lift production, sharpen efficiency, and open up jobs.
Marhabo Bakriyeva of Navoiy region, one of the recipients, intends to expand her sewing business and bring more women in her community into paid work. Madina Abulkasimova of Samarkand will put her grant toward training facilities for tourism professionals under her private tour operator business.
Sayyora Kasimova of Namangan region secured funding to grow her day-care centre and broaden inclusive education services for children and adults with disabilities.
The festival went beyond funding, offering hands-on business development through mentorship sessions on branding, low-cost marketing, customer retention, sales growth, and financial sustainability. Business experts drew on real case studies to walk entrepreneurs through common obstacles and growth strategies they could put to use right away.
HAMROH set up the Women’s Entrepreneurship Support Programme, which UNDP runs with backing from Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Economy and Finance and The Coca-Cola Foundation, pairing networking, mentorship, and funding to grow women-led enterprises nationwide.
