Midjourney Unveils V7 AI Model With Advanced Personalization and Faster Image Generation

Prime Highlights:

  • Midjourney has released V7, the company’s first new AI image model in nearly a year, with improved image generation capabilities.
  • V7 includes a personalization option, where users can train the model to their own vision by voting up or down on images.

Key Facts:

  • V7 began shipping in alpha around midnight EST on April 3, 2025.
  • The model offers two modes: Turbo, which is faster but more costly, and Relax, with normal processing speeds.

Key Background:

Midjourney, founded by David Holz in 2022, has been leading the field of AI-driven image creation. Unlike most AI startups, Midjourney does not have external investors and earns all its revenue from its paid subscriber base. As of December 2023, the company was estimated to be generating revenues of around $200 million.

Midjourney V7 release is a milestone as it is its biggest model update in almost a year. The release comes after OpenAI rolled out an enhanced image generator on ChatGPT, which became popular for style images. Although V7 is not specifically aimed at Ghibli-style, it has amazing upgrade in art and realism quality.

One of the most revolutionary things about V7 is its personalization module. The user has to rate about 200 images, and that allows the model to align the user’s personal sense of beauty. In previous versions, the personalization had been optional but here it’s on by default, tuning the AI to make tailored visuals.

V7 also comes with two primary modes of processing: Relax and Turbo. Relax is cheaper but default in processing speed, whereas Turbo is rapid image generation but costly. In addition, Draft Mode is supported which is ten times accelerating and half the cost but sub-standard. The draft images can now be upgraded for better resolution.

V7 has a completely new architecture as per David Holz, and better text understanding and better rendering of complex details like hands and objects. However, advanced features like upscaling and retexturing have not been yet released but are due to be released in the next two months.
