Background

The EGO Foundation has trained more than 15,000 women entrepreneurs, traders, artisans and aspiring business owners in Oshodi, Lagos, in business, financial and digital skills aimed at supporting business growth and economic participation.

The training was delivered through the foundation’s SheEnabled Project, which helps women develop financial knowledge and gain practical skills to grow their businesses. Participants received practical lessons in financial management, bookkeeping, digital business tools, savings practices and funding access.

According to the foundation, the programme aims to help women improve the performance of their businesses, increase income, build financial stability and contribute more effectively to local economic development.

Speaking at the end of the programme, Executive Director of the EGO Foundation, Toluwase Olaniyan, said empowering women remains essential for long-term economic progress. He noted that women play an important role in supporting families, driving business activity and strengthening communities.

Olaniyan said the SheEnabled Project was created to equip women with the knowledge and skills needed to grow sustainable businesses and achieve greater financial independence. He added that the initiative also seeks to create more opportunities for economic participation among women.

The foundation said the programme has reached more than 25,000 women across Nigeria since its launch through a range of financial literacy and entrepreneurship development activities.

Building on that progress, the organisation plans to expand its reach in the coming years. Olaniyan said the foundation aims to empower 80,000 women every quarter across Africa by 2030 through programmes focused on digital skills, financial education, entrepreneurship and economic inclusion.

The initiative reflects wider efforts to ensure women-owned businesses are better prepared for a rapidly changing digital economy. By improving access to business knowledge and practical skills, the programme seeks to help more women build resilient enterprises and create sustainable sources of income.
