Background

Horsham Golf in West Sussex has launched a standalone retail store exclusively for female golfers. Called edit, the store offers apparel, footwear and accessories from top brands including PING, Adidas, J.Lindeberg, Puma, G/FORE, Röhnisch, Glenmuir and Under Armour. The store is open to both members and non-members and officially opens later this month.

The store runs on a booking-first model. Individuals or small groups of up to five people can reserve private appointments and enjoy full access to the space. Walk-in customers are also welcome during selected hours. Guests who pre-book receive a £10 voucher to use during their visit. A trained female member of the retail team provides expert guidance throughout.

The store includes a changing room and has been designed to feel welcoming to all female golfers, from beginners to regular players. Horsham Golf’s General Manager, Mike Yorke, said the concept was driven by a clear gap in the market. He noted that the retail experience for female golfers has traditionally been limited and impersonal, and that the women’s game is growing rapidly. The objective, as he said, was to foster a welcoming atmosphere where women could have fun shopping for some of the best brands, whether alone or in company.

In many ways, the launch also represents a move towards a new trend in golf clubs and the way they attract women players. The difference here is in moving away from the conventional retail model, making Horsham Golf a pioneer.
