Background

The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) has launched investED for Returning Women, a specialised programme designed to help women rejoin careers in the capital market after taking a career break. The initiative was inaugurated by Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying at the SC headquarters.

First announced in October, the programme has already received over 600 applications from women aged between their mid-30s and late 40s. Many of them previously worked in sectors such as banking, finance, insurance, and oil & gas, but stepped away due to family or caregiving responsibilities.

The initiative has two phases: REFRESH and RESKILL. In the REFRESH phase, participants build confidence, prepare for careers, and make professional connections. In the RESKILL phase, they get technical training, experience in the industry, and support during their first six months on the job. Participants completing both phases will receive a certificate and an RM2,000 incentive.

SC Chairman Datuk Mohammad Faiz Azmi said the programme supports the SC’s efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in the financial sector. “Among the top 100 listed companies on Bursa Malaysia, more than 34% of board positions are now held by women. This programme aims to harness the experience of returning professionals to strengthen the market’s talent pool,” he noted.

The initiative follows the successful model of SC’s investED Leadership Programme, which combines classroom learning, mentorship, and industry placements. The SC will also connect participants with partner companies for potential employment opportunities.

Supporting partners include 30% Club Malaysia, LeadWomen Sdn Bhd, Securities Industry Development Corporation, PwC Malaysia Holdings, and Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad.
