Key Background

Privately owned and locally controlled Marquette Bank has appointed Elizabeth “Betty” Harn President of Marquette National Corporation and President & CEO of Marquette Bank, effective August 1, 2025. The transition follows a succession plan from veteran leader George Moncada, who will remain an active presence as senior advisor and member of the Board of Directors.

Harn’s appointment is a milestone achievement, as she is the first and only woman to head one of the Chicago area’s 25 largest banks. Harn spent over 25 years with Marquette Bank, most recently serving as Executive Vice President. She headed operations, human resources, information technology, marketing, governance, and security, working closely alongside Moncada to direct strategy.

During its service, Marquette Bank was awarded its 12th straight “Outstanding” Community Reinvestment Act rating — the highest rating given — in acknowledgement of the bank’s ongoing focus on community involvement. Harn also co-created the Marquette Neighborhood Commitment program, which unifies volunteerism, economic development, philanthropy, and partnership to deliver more powerful local communities. The program has been honored with state and national innovation and social responsibility awards.

Gratefully, Harn stated that she is honored to lead an institution she has been involved with nearly three decades. She reaffirmed her dedication to maintaining the bank’s independent, community-focused philosophy while ensuring continued service to customers, employees, and communities. In addition to her business acumen, Harn also sits on the boards of Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School and The Port Ministries, again asserting her ongoing commitment to education and social service.

With 22 locations featuring 20 retail banking offices and specialty offices, Marquette Bank continues to be a staple of Chicagoland’s financial scene. The hiring of Betty Harn adds strategic continuity and is a proactive measure toward local banking leadership diversity.
