Walmart has appointed Erin Nealy Cox as its new Chief Legal Officer (CLO), which represents a major leadership transition that supports the company’s efforts to develop its international governance framework. Cox will succeed Rachel Brand, due to the latter’s resignation earlier this year.
Cox joins Walmart from her previous role at Kirkland & Ellis, where she worked as a partner who specialized in government and regulatory matters and internal investigations. Her expertise extends beyond her role as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas because she handled major cases, which included cybercrime, public corruption and national security matters.
Cox will serve as the head of Walmart’s Global Governance division which will require her to manage all legal operations and establish compliance and ethical standards and corporate governance practices and risk assessment procedures and security operations of the company. The role is pivotal for a company of Walmart’s magnitude, as it negotiates regulatory intricacies and transforming globalities of retail world.
