Background-
Teresa Rand, founder of Teresa Rand Consulting, has won the Daytona Beach News-Journal’s “Most Influential Woman in Business” award, the top honor at this year’s ceremony.
Businesswomen from Volusia and Flagler counties filled a conference room at The Shores Resort & Spa, many dressed in pink. Last year’s winner, Ormond Beach philanthropist Cici Brown, presented the award. Brown praised Rand’s long list of achievements and said the full details would keep the room busy until dinner.
Rand launched the “Boss Lady” conference to empower Florida women and give them a place to network and hear speakers. She also teaches free lessons to other businesswomen, mentors college students and volunteers locally.
She serves on several task forces and boards, including the Daytona Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce advisory task force and foundation board, which she once chaired. She has also run at least three marathons.
Rand accepted the award with tearful hugs, and nearly everyone in the room stood to applaud. She thanked the women around her and said no one succeeds alone.
The News-Journal and its digital marketing arm, LocaliQ, co-host the awards, which began 21 years ago. Readers nominated 37 women this year, and seven won awards. More than 530 women have received recognition over the years.
Rebecca Capparelli, vice president of promotions at USA Today Network, gave the keynote speech. She urged guests to dream anew when plans change. /
