Background

BRAC has opened applications for the latest cycle of its BRIDGE Returnship Programme, a six-month initiative that helps women return to professional life after taking extended career breaks.

The programme offers on-the-job training, professional mentoring, and career development support. After completing the programme, participants will work across different BRAC projects in areas such as project management, research, and programme operations.

BRAC said many women leave their jobs because of maternity, caregiving, family duties, and social pressure. When they try to return to work, they often struggle with skill gaps, low confidence, and weak professional networks. The BRIDGE Returnship Programme aims to reduce these barriers by offering a structured and supportive pathway back into formal employment.

The initiative began last year and drew strong interest. BRAC selected 15 women from nearly 1,100 applicants. Of these, four have already secured roles at BRAC and other organisations. In addition, around 100 shortlisted applicants attended a boot camp that provided training, career planning support and networking opportunities.

Moutushi Kabir, Senior Director of People, Culture and Communications at BRAC, said taking a career break does not reflect a lack of talent. She said the returnship programme helps women rebuild their professional identity and confidence while creating a bridge back to the workplace.

Women who wish to apply must have at least three years of professional experience in a recognised organisation and hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. They must also have taken a career break of at least one year.

BRAC said the programme supports women who want financial independence, career growth and a chance to contribute to their families and communities.

Applications for the new returnship batch are now open and will close on 21 January 2026. Interested candidates can apply through BRAC’s official recruitment channels.
